West Las Vegas High School

By dividing the design and construction of the new West Las Vegas High School into five phases the school district was able to finance the new school plant over a period of time. Also, this allowed the school to remain at its existing location and to function during construction.

Starting with a classroom and science lab wing other phases included a library/media room, a technology center, cafeteria, kitchen, gymnasium expansion, multi-purpose 300-seat theater/assembly space, and additional classrooms. Phases I - III are now complete. As new facilities come on line the decaying buildings are demolished, providing space for construction of the next phase.

At the end of all five phases the high school will function as a unified campus designed to reflect the historic Las Vegas railroad era building characteristics including pitched roofs, bricks, and masonry forms seen every day in the community. The goal of the building design is to foster in the students a sense of pride and ownership in their school. The High School is a strong community center.
