Albuquerque Aquarium Phase II - Albuquerque
NM |
This addition will encompass 14,900 square feet on two levels and offer several new exhibits including sea dragons, chambered nautilus and flashlight fish. The highlight of the new wing will be an enclosed, 28 ft deep tropical saltwater tank containing a variety of Indo-Pacific fishes in a naturalistic coral reef environment. The tank will have several shallow areas and a gradual, sloping beach entry. It will be open to the general public who will be able to view the fishes from outside the tank as well as to snorkel, SCUBA dive and interact with them in the water. There will also be a toddler wading area and a touch pool where small children can splash in the water and pick up seashells. The top of the tank will have an outdoor feel with a "greenhouse" roof, white sand "beach" floor, tropical plants, a waterfall, and a snack bar with seating. Dressing rooms and showers, a gift shop, and a dive equipment rental shop will be located on the lower level. There will be an elevator as well as ramps and a viewing window so visitors can either ride or walk to the top of the tank, while getting a constant view into it. The Pacific Experience will be the only interactive exhibit of its kind in the United States. |
